What are the general requirements of steel for plastic mold manufacturing

2023/07/03

Thermosetting plastics, such as bakelite, are pressed under heat and pressure to form a permanent shape. Bakelite molds are subjected to pressure periodically and are continuously heated at a temperature of 150~200°C.

Thermoplastics, such as polyvinyl chloride, generally use injection molding. The plastic is heated in an independent heating chamber, and then injected into a cooler mold in a softened state, and pressure is applied to make it cold and hard.

The normal operating temperature of the injection mold is 120~180°C, and it is also as high as 260°C. However, the cavity is usually cooled by water during work, so the degree of heat, force and wear is relatively light. Only some varieties, such as plastics containing chlorine and fluorine, will release harmful gases during pressing, which will have a greater erosive effect on the cavity.

According to the working conditions and characteristics of precision plastic molds, the following requirements are put forward for steel for plastic molds:

①The steel material needs to be very pure to obtain a highly glossy machined surface. For this reason, less inclusions, less segregation, dense structure and high surface hardness are required;

②The surface should be wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant, requiring a certain surface hardening layer, generally above 45hrc, and the surface finish should remain unchanged for a long time;

③It has sufficient strength and toughness to bear the load without deformation or damage;

④ Heat treatment deformation is small to ensure interchangeability and matching accuracy;

⑤Have good electrical processing ability.

Mold Manufacturing/Stamping Die Common Fault Analysis and Solution

Stamping die is a special process equipment for processing materials into parts (or semi-finished products) in cold stamping processing, called cold stamping die (commonly known as cold stamping die). Stamping is a pressure processing method that uses a mold installed on a press to apply pressure to the material at room temperature to cause separation or plastic deformation to obtain the required parts.

Select the Three Points That Cannot Be Ignored by Precision Mold Manufacturers

The mold must not only have high processing precision, but also have very good processing quality. Generally, the tolerance range should be controlled at the micron level. Only high-precision molds can ensure that the product reaches a certain accuracy and the pass rate of the product, and it is possible to extend the use of the mold. The service life is long, the mold is a relatively expensive process equipment, and its processing cost accounts for about 10%~30% of the cost, so it is more meaningful to require a long life of the mold.
